If you create artworks or take commissions, one of the hazards you need to look out for are people who will try to rip you off. My experience, these people are in the minority, but they absolutely exist, and I know because I got taken by one of them once. I still tend to err on the side of trust, in that I'll often produce the final render before asking for payment. That's worked well for me well over 90-95% of the time. Like I said, the vast majority people are decent and fair. But this is a hobby for me, and if someone does waste my time it's only my time that's been spent. There are people here who work in return for the ability to pay bills, and when they get ripped off it's a much more painful outcome. My opinion, as an artist, you 10000000% within your rights to specify up front your payment terms, even allowing for advances and even final payment clearance (so no refunds) before you hand over final works.
